Dry Eye Test
There are many different causes of dry eye:
Prolonged use of contact lenses, air-conditioned environments that dry the air, surgical procedures on the eye, staring at bright screens for extended periods (computer, TV, tablet, mobile phone, etc.), smoking, rheumatic and heart diseases, diabetes, glaucoma, aging, environmental factors, and certain medications.
Teardrops protect and cleanse the eye by essentially washing it. The sufficient production of tears can easily be determined with the Schirmer Test. This test can be used for dry eye as well as excessive tearing.
A calibrated test paper is placed under the patient's lower eyelid and the amount of wetting of this paper is checked over a specific period, thus collecting the necessary data for diagnosis. This test can also be performed under local anesthesia.
