AddOn Smart Lens Treatment
Smart lenses are known as lenses that are implanted into a person's eye for distance, near, and intermediate vision, providing enhanced quality of sight. This technique was developed for those who had cataract surgery long ago and had to use reading glasses. With the technique called ADD ON smart lens, the old lens implanted in the eye can be transformed into a “SMART” lens, allowing Smart Lenses that provide vision for distance, near, and intermediate ranges to be inserted instead of the old lenses in the patient's eye. Particularly, those who had cataract surgery in the past but have had to use reading glasses can say goodbye to their reading glasses after the procedure thanks to ADD ON smart lens technology. The ADD ON Smart Lens application is completed in approximately 6-7 minutes under local anesthesia, and the patient is discharged within the same day.

Who is Suitable for ADD ON Lenses?

After cataract surgery or refractive lens surgery, residual refractive errors may remain, meaning that the refractive defect might not be completely eliminated. It is not possible to precisely predict the position of the lens in the eye, and if the lens is not perfectly positioned, it can cause refractive changes.

Therefore, when the patient achieves stable refraction after surgery, the eye doctor may consider performing surgery with ADD ON smart lens.

In the case of LASIK surgery, refractive errors may also persist. These patients are candidates for this type of surgery since they cannot undergo laser surgery again and have intraocular lenses implanted.

This procedure is carried out when there is already an artificial lens in the eye or when the surgical removal of the crystalline lens is planned. Additionally, this new lens can be multifocal to provide vision at all distances.

There are four different types of ADD ON smart lens procedures. Determining which option is right for you will be established after a comprehensive examination.

How is the Application Procedure Performed?

The application of ADD ON smart lens is quite similar to cataract surgery. Within a minimal invasive procedure, a thin ADD ON smart lens is placed in front of the primary Intraocular (intraocular) lens. Your eye doctor will provide detailed information about the steps and examinations that will be conducted prior to the surgery.
